Letters of John: Love, Truth and Victory

Course Introduction

Understand the meaning of love, truth, and victory in the Johannine Letters, and how they speak to us today.

Many are intrigued by the three letters of John, which differ significantly in their structure and context. But all three of them emphasise the importance of love, truth, and victory. In fact, the Letters are unique especially because they have the most references to ‘love’ within one chapter – and they are the only New Testament texts that specifically mention the ‘antichrist’!

Why are love, truth and victory so emphasised in these Letters? Who is the antichrist? What is ‘perfect love’, and why is it so important to know that it ‘casts out fear’?

As we study the Johannine Letters together, we will develop an in-depth knowledge of the themes of love, truth, and victory in these writings, and the reason they receive so much emphasis. We will learn why they were so crucial for the early church, and how we may take the lessons gained from these letters and apply them in our own contexts today.
